A few words about Aegina
Aegina is the second largest island of the Saronic Gulf. It's a heaven-on-earth, very close to Athens, an ideal place for one-day excursions and getaways all year long. It is famous for its vegetation and of course for its famous pistachios.
When you arrive in Aegina, you will be welcomed by the Church Saint Nicholas the Thalassinos and the neoclassical houses that were built when Aegina was the capital of Greece. The mansions, the traditional shops and the fish taverns create a friendly and warm ambiance for the visitors.
The beaches of Marathonas and Agia Marina are the most popular, where you can enjoy the sunset or do water sports. Its rocky seabed is ideal for spearfishing.
Aegina is ideal for hiking, among the pine trees, where you will have the chance to meet with the island's flora. It's worth walking by the seaside, from the Port to Faros.
You can visit the Archaeological Museum, the Historical Museum, the Christos Kapralos Museum, the Church of Agios Nektarios, the hill of Kolona, and the Temple of Apollo or the Temple of Aphaia. Many important Greeks such as Nikos Kazantzakis, Charilaos Trikoupis and Theodoros Kolokotronis lived in Aegina, and you can visit their houses.
