A few words about Amorgos
Amorgos, the easternmost island of the Cyclades, combines the beauty of the Aegean Sea with history and civilization.
Chora, the capital village of Amorgos, one of the most beautiful capital villages of the Cyclades, is built around a 13th century Venetian castle, while the most prominent color is the Cycladic white of the houses and the characteristic purple of the bougainvilleas.
The island has been a passage for pirates, 19th century travelers, 70’s hippies who camped in Lakki, islanders who asked for a prophecy from "lalon idor" - the "speaking water" of Saint George Varsamitis, as well as yourselves, who will also pass though, in order to discover an island unspoiled from mass tourism, where ancient customs, old trails and authentic villages are still preserved.
Aghia Anna beach is worth visiting. The Big Blue was filmed there and the title suits it perfectly. The monastery of Panagia Hozoviotissa is situated about 300 meters above the beach, an imposing structure built on the 11th century AD, which, according to tradition, was founded due to a miracle. If you have the stamina to climb its 300 steps, it is worth visiting.
Mouros beach boasts wonderful waters and rocky, wild landscape, while Maltezi is one of the few beaches offering amenities, with shallow blue waters and golden sand. Other beautiful beaches, such as Kalotaritissa, are situated on the southernmost tip of the island, where, in a small gulf preceding the beach, lies a shipwreck, half-sunken, comprising an unforgettable landscape.
Amorgos is the favorite island of campers. It has three camping sites, the most famous being that of Aegiali, a few meters from the beach, between the two beach bars.
A wonderful destination for a short or longer break, combining unique contrasts!
