A few words about Ios
Ios or Nios, as the locals call it, is one of the most beautiful islands of Cyclades. A destination that combines intense nightlife, beautiful beaches and tradition.
Chora, only two kilometers away from the port of Ormos, is amphitheatrically built on the slope of a hill on which you can see the ruins of a medieval castle. All-white little houses, colorful sheltered alleys, known as "stigadia", twelve windmills, churches with the arched bell towers and blue domes, create a unique settlement that has been declared a landmark.
We can swim and dive in the bustling beach of Mylopotas, situated very close to Chora. A beach with blue-green crystal-clear waters and fine sand, ideal for sea sports, with cafés and bars were awesome parties take place at night. Other beautiful beaches are Manganari, Yalos, Koumbara, Sapounochoma, Papas Beach, Psathi and Agia Theodoti.
Another remarkable site in Ios is Homer’s Grave on top of hill in the northern part of the island near the cove of Plakoto. The view from there is fantastic. Many ancient historians and travelers believe that Homer’s resting place is in Ios.
The island has 365 churches. It's worthwhile to visit the church of Panagia Gremiotissa, the matron of the island, situated on the edge or the highest cliff near Chora, and watch from there an incredible sunset that will travel you away.
Don't forget to visit the open-air theatre "Odysseas Elytis", a real gem of the island, where important cultural events are being held. It's situated on the slope of a hill, and from its benches you can have an amazing view of the Aegean Sea.
