A few words about Naxos
Νaxos is the largest island of the Cyclades combining the Cycladic architecture with high mountains and fertile plains. This particular geomorphology with contrasting but harmoniously connected landscapes gives the island the uniqueness it deserves.
Chora, the largest town of the island, is built on the hill of the medieval castle, on the site of the ancient city of Naxos. Several monuments in Chora prove the historic past of the town, as Portara, the archaeological site of Grota and the Venetian castle, the walls of which are the back walls of the surrounding houses.
The town combines the Cycladic beauty and the medieval architecture. It is worth spending some hours to visit the sites of this town and discover its authentic traditional character. Narrow streets and alleys, white houses most of them turned into bars, restaurants and boutiques, and a majestic view to the Aegean Sea.
Naxos offers a series of with golden-white sand beaches, with Agios Prokopios and Agia Anna being the most popular ones. Plaka is a very long organized beach with wonderful white sand and Mikri Vigla is a beautiful sand beach ideal for the fans of windsurfing.
Twenty eight kilometers far from Chora, is Apiranthos the most authentic village of the island. It worth walking in its paved alleys and pass under its marble arches.
Don't forget to taste the delicious local wine in the traditional taverns and cafés of the island.
