A few words about Folegandros
Folegandros belongs to the Cyclades island complex and it is one the smallest inhabited islands of Greece. It looks like a peaceful island, but during the summer season there is a considerable turnout of tourists who want to enjoy its nature. There is almost no vegetation and the landscape you will see has a wild beauty; that's why they call it the “iron island”.
The special characteristic of Folegandros is Chora, its beautiful capital village. The colorful alleys, the freshly dyed white little houses, the full of flowers plazas, make Folegandros one the most picturesque islands of the Aegean Sea. It is built on the edge of a rock and has a majestic view to the open sea. On this rock, there is Castro, a part of the village built like a fortress. You can visit the Theotokos Church in the outskirts of Chora.
Karavostassi is the port and Chochlidia is the main beach of the island. Its landmark is the chapel on the east end. Because of the easy access, it's the most popular place full of salt cedars and traditional taverns. You can visit the isolated beaches and the Golden Cave taking one the traditional little boats.
Well known beaches of the island are sandy Angali, Saint Nicholas and Livadi, the longest of the island.
Before you leave, don't forget to taste the traditional dish of Folegandos, Matsata (homemade pasta) and the traditional pastry Karpouzenia.
