A few words about Alonissos
Alonissos belongs to the Sporades island complex and it is one of the six ecological islands of Europe. The deep blue of the sea is harmoniously combined with the green of the pine trees, while the colorful little villages and the traditional architecture come along with the natural environment and the hospitable islanders.
Most of the inhabitants of Alonissos live in the port of Patitiri, which is the administrative center of the island.
The capital of Alonissos, Old Village, gazes at the blue sea from the top a hilltop. Ιt is famous for the fantastic view it offers to all directions. The paved alleys, the traditional houses, the taverns and the coffee shops are offering you moments of insouciance. There, you can visit the medieval castle, considered a real architectural treasure.
No matter how many days you will spend in Alonissos, you can go to a different beach everyday. Agios Dimitrios with the blue waters and the snow-white sand, Megalos Mourtias with colorful taverns on the edge on the water and Chrissi Milia are some of the organized beaches you can visit.
If you feel like exploring the Alonissos' s countryside, it's worth visiting the chapels of Agioi Anargyri near Patitiri, the churches of Agios Constantinos and Agios Georgios, and the Monastery of Panagia.
Finally, your visit to the National Sea Park will be an unforgettable experience for you. It is a unique compound of land and sea Mediterranean natural reserves with hundreds of plants and animals. There, you can have a close look at the Monachus monachus seal, a rare endangered species of the Mediterranean seal with most of its population having found refuge in the park.
