A few words about Kavala
Kavala is a town of Eastern Macedonia, on the foothills of the mount Symvolo. An ideal all-year-round destination. Thanks to its Castle, its beaches, its neoclassical architecture and its squares, it is one of the most beautiful towns of Northern Greece.
In its port with the palm trees and the paved promenade, the modern buildings coexist with the traditional fish taverns and the fishing boats. The ancient aqueduct of Kamares, the landmark of Kavala, the magnificent Castle with its citadel, the Imaret of Muhammad Ali Pasha in Panagia, the imposing mansions, the beautiful squares and the big tobacco warehouses compose a unique place that awaits for you to explore.
Eleftherias Square is the center of Kavala, along with Megalou Alexandrou Street, a pedestrian street, where you can find many shops, cafeterias, as well as an old tobacco warehouse that now operates as a shopping mall and the commercial Omonoia Street. Near the square, there is the old neighborhood of Agios Nikolaos, with the Saint Nicholas Church, a former mosque.
The most important sights of Kavala include the Big Club for the Greek Community of Kavala, the Town Hall, the Statue of Goddess Niki (Victory), the Tokos Building, the Municipal Conservatory and the Lazarist Monastery.
Kavala is ideal for hiking, as excursions on the mountain are organized almost every weekend with experienced mountaineers. In the Nestos River, you can go rafting, visit the Forest Village of Mount Paggaio, go skiing in Falakro Mountain Ski Center, and visit the wonderful wineries where you can see the wine making process, taste and buy wine.
