A few words about Psara
Psara is a beautiful island in North Aegean Sea, ideal for those who seek a calm destination for their vacation, far from the noise and the crowded places. There is only one village on the island, amphitheatrically built around the port. The two-storey houses are white with ceramic roofs; among them, you can find the residence of Constantine Canaris. In the main square, there is the Holocaust Memorial, with the carved names of all the victims of the Holocaust.
The beautiful and calm beaches, as well as the Mediterranean climate, make Psara the ideal holiday destination. Enjoy your swim in one of the little sandy beaches, among the rocks. The sand beaches of the island are Kato Gyalos and Katsouni. After a ten-minute walk, you can reach the beaches of Lazareta and Lakka. If you look for an exotic beach, ask a fisherman to take you to the beach of Psili Ammos in Antipsara, which is considered one of the best five beaches of the Mediterranean.
In Psara, you can visit the archeological sites of the Mycenaean Period and its 62 Christian churches. Every year, on August 15, a big "panygiri" celebration takes place in the Monastery of Virgin Mary. The whole island celebrates all night long with food, wine, traditional music and dance.
You should taste the traditional recipes, like the Koufota pasta, the Boureki or Gries cheese pies. Psara is the perfect place to eat lobster, since it is not expensive at all and one of the best spots in Greece for fishing lobsters.
